Jung Sik: Named after its chef/co-owner, Jung Sik is a so-called “modern” take on Korean food, but the pricing seems to recall a richer era in New York’s history (the '90s, anyone?). The décor is straight P. Diddy white party with pristine table clothes and seating. The only food option is a wallet-bulging $125 prix fixe but includes five courses spanning salad (such as jelly and lobster), rice/noodle (foie gras and kimchi), seafood, meat, and desserts like spinach sponge cake. To go cheapish, one could opt to not add wine pairings to the meal ($75 extra) but that’s little comfort. The wine list is impressive on its own, featuring options from nearly the entire globe with many broaching four- and five-digit territory in cost and only available by the bottle. Or, you could opt for a cocktail or two, like the wasabi and chili-loaded Blush Mary ($20). Bring an open mind, bring your appetite, bring a low-interest rate credit card.
