Keg & Lantern: It’s no secret that Greenpoint bars are inherently (and oddly) internationally themed. At Keg and Lantern, the owners have consciously crossed those Brooklyn-based borders and welcome all with their mixed staff of Irish, American and Polish origin. And it’s not just the staff that’s diverse: events such as Chinatown DVD Night, or a drink-and-draw with nude models, play alongside live bands, occasional backyard barbecues and both American and European sports on tv. And while the pub-grub intensive menu isn’t quite so varied, it is delicious; go for the beer-battered fish and chips platter, or, for you Greenpoint bargain-hunting types, the 25 cent wings. Another anomaly: Polish beers go for $6, while the hipsters still get their usual $2 PBR fix. And all can enjoy a $4 make-your-own Bloody Mary with Irish Breakfast. So if you want to live out your cross-cultural West Side story fantasies (without, you know, the stabbings and tragedy), then head over to Keg and Lantern for a few pints...or steins. |
