Kibo: If you’re praying for a swanky spot to impress your date without dropping hundos, Kibo is the angel you’ve been asking for. This bi-level restaurant features a sushi bar, robata grill and amply-stocked bar on each level, plus a DJ booth with lounge area. Japanese murals line the walls, while decorative ceramics and Asian-inspired lamps hang from an undulating ceiling of wooden planks. Sink into your plush red-leather chair and order from their selection of Kibo cocktails like the Lotus Blossom (pearl cucumber, raspberry sake and rose water, $9). For dinner, don’t miss out on the Shrimp and Smoked Salmon Sushi ($14) with mango, avocado and wasabi cream cheese, or if you’re hankering for something warm, partake in one of the deceivingly-ample Ramen dishes ($16-$19) with soy egg, fish cake, nori, bean sprouts and scallions. If you still have room left from the heaping portions, take a peep at the dessert menu’s Mochi ($5/3 pieces), Tofu Pumpkin Cheesecake, or 20 Layer Chocolate Cake with green tea ice cream ($10). And before you roll out the door, don’t forget to scrawl down your secret desire and tie it to the wishing wall—ours was to dine here again.
