L'Asso EV:
A pizzeria that serves organic pies and strictly adheres to the Margherita DOC law may seem stuffy, but L’Asso’s new location in the East Village is anything but. Roomier than the original location, the front bar is long and serves up a top-notch beer list specifically meant to pair with the pizza, boasting options such as Founders Pale Ale on tap and Cigar City’s Jai Alai in bottles ($5). Want to feel a little schmancy with your slices? One can enjoy the back room and order from the respectable wine-list ($7 a glass), and there's some amazing Stumptown coffee, too. The EV installment offers new menu options such as arancini ($11), braised short ribs ($24) and even sturgeon ($26), but, of course, pizza is the real star with more than a dozen specialty options in three different styles ($16-31 a pie) highlighted by stuff like the hemp-heavy Hempshroom. The dessert menu includes a cheesecake of the week ($8) and you can even buy a jar of organic pizza sauce to take home with you! Stuffy? More like stuffed.
