L'ybane:
Break out your Birkin if you plan to join the Eurocentric crowd here. Unlike other fake French bistros that seem to be metastasizing all over town, L'ybane is the real thing (which is precisely why there are no cutesy country tchotchkes plastered all over the place). This mod-looking boite bears the same name as its trendy Nice sibling. You'll think you're in France with all the well-heeled transplants lining the place; you can spot them by their perfect hair, perpetual tan, and the nonchalant way they knock back a flute of Laurent-Perrier. The menu caters to the tastes of the French Riviera as well: Expect a mix of Moroccan and Mediterranean fare, with dishes like meat brochettes, chick pea fritters, and grilled fish. For offerings like horsemeat hamburger (Hamburger a Cheval), a "don't ask, don't tell" policy is strongly advised. Not that anyone comes here for the cuisine, anyway -- but if you summer in Nice, it's a great opportunity to catch up with your neighbors. Open daily 11:30am-midnight.
