It’s going to take a lot more than a “freedom fry” movement to get us to dislike the French, especially when they keep churning out elegant nightspots like La Belle Vie. Like a glass of Merlot, this Chelsea spot is classic, warm, red, and pleasing to the senses. Equally suitable for a Sunday brunch in their sidewalk seating as it is for a relaxing late-night glass of wine, La Belle Vie (which appropriately translates as “the beautiful life”) reminds us what it’s like when you order French wine without the whine. The music lingering in the background doesn’t overpower, but nicely complements the easy trickle of bar patrons. Ah, La Belle Vie indeed.
Great place to take a date for wine. You can get a really good bottle for less than 30 dollars. Not crowded and with soft music playing you can hear what each other are saying.
