La Birreria: Like every other part of Eataly, the massive Italian specialty market-slash-restaurant hub, getting to their newly-opened rooftop beer garden will require waiting in long lines, being bumped into every 15 seconds, and dealing with security guards racing about in dark sunglasses taking names and numbers like you're on queue to have a beer with the king. The spacious square room conjures Midas himself, with a retractable roof somehow splaying down golden rays even on the most overcast of days. During bona-fide sunny weather, the beer hall becomes open-air, but even then terming Birreria a "beer garden" seems a stretch. The tables are tiny, many beer portions are less than pint-sized, and there is nary a pretzel to be found. It is more aptly described as a beer factory, with American brewing company, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery marrying with the Italian Birrificio Le Baladan and Birra del Borgo to create unique exclusive brews. Call it what you will, with eight varieties of wine on tap, selections of cask ($10) and draft beers ($7-10), and a menu with the likes of blood sausage sandwiches ($10) and fried shitake mushrooms ($15), Birreria will be no less bustling than its benevolent landlord downstairs.
