Looking to impress an in-the-know date? Skip romantic go-to's like Gramercy Tavern and show off your restaurant savvy by heading to lesser-known hotspot La Silhouette. The French-American dining room may be stuffed with six-figure-earning McKinsey staffers and an older Park Avenue set, but it actually proves surprisingly un-stuffy, especially when considering its roots (the place is headed up by restaurant big-wigs like the former managers of the haute cuisine mecca La Bernadin and Chef David Malbequi of Daniel). While the laid-back vibe may be a surprise considering its influences, the rest of the offerings are not—impeccable service, delicate dishes, a refined wine selection and a jaw-dropping tab come consistently in this jewel box of a space. As for the bar, it’s short and sweet (with room for six), making it the perfect starting point for an indulgent evening that begins with their namesake cocktail (raspberry vodka, ginger liqueur and rose champagne, $15) and ends with a delectable chocolate soufflé for two ($18).
