La Superior:
Not to be confused with your trendy taqueria, La Superior offers a menu of traditional Mexican diner and street cart dishes. Locals will appreciate the affordability of the menu, ranging from $2.50 tacos to $13 for camaron o pescado pibil (shrimp or fish slow-cooked in banana leaves, with achiote sauce, rice and black beans). With the soul of a barrio hangout, the front of this neighborhood cantina is proudly painted to look like a beer advertisement commonly seen on Mexican dive bars. Inside, the walls are decorated with handcrafted wallpaper and deep red paint. While the owners await a liquor license, look for juice cocktails and smoothies—or better yet, BYOB from the corner deli. Lunch and brunch are coming soon, and the restaurant serves dinner until 1am on weeknights and 2am on weekends.
A true Gem in Williamsburg. To start, the Guacamole was authentic and chunky, mixed to perfection and served inside of a tiny Mexican-style cauldron. Chicken flautas were served crispy and generously drizzled with sauces, crema fresca and cheeses - deliciously crunchy.
The Enchiladas Suizas, are a delectable treat reminiscent of those served in Sanborns (the supposed birthplace of the Suiza style - a green creamy tomatillo based sauce served over chicken wrapped tortillas).
Last - the watermelon agua fresca is sure to be a refreshing summer treat.
