Lavender Lake:
A bar can claim to be unpretentious, but it rarely manages to live up to it; especially when speaking of a cocktail bar in Brooklyn. But Lavender Lake has nailed it. The seriously pretty digs (owned by four designers) is housed in an old horse stable on Carroll Street in Gowanus and serves neighbors a nice brunch, way-better-than-average bar snacks, cheap buckets of beer (5 for $12) and crafty cocktails to the tunes of a "Lavender Lake Iced Tea" (with lavender vodka, simple syrup, earl grey iced tea & lemon, $10). The place is also making a name for themselves for summer imbibing with a huge patio, ample seating and twinkling lights—all under the carful watch of an oversized garden gnome. Who said Gowanus stinks?
