LAVO: Walk by Lavo on a mildly warm night and you might just see floor-to-ceiling windows and their front door wide open, seemingly welcoming all. Unfortunately (or not, depending on how connected you are), looks are deceiving and the guest list rules all. Consisting of a street level Southern Italian restaurant helmed by Top Chef season four contestant Manuel Treviño and a subterranean nightclub, Lavo comes courtesy of Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss—the duo that put West Chelsea on the map. Can they do they same for Midtown? Well they’ve already dragged the likes of Jessica Simpson, Russell Simmons, Ciara and Nicky Hilton out of the Boom Boom Room, so that's a start. If you went to Marquee in its heyday the scene will be familiar—an expansive space, a sunken dance floor, heel-proof cushiony banquettes, a glistening disco ball, and the bottles and models loving set that includes lots of Euros—many of whom, lucky for Lavo, conveniently live on the UES.... |
