Le Comptoir: In a hood where it's as important to have a pedigree as it is to act like you don't, South Williamsburg restaurateurs Sébastien Chamaret and Adrien Angelvy’s (La Goulue and Les Deux Gamins, respectively) wisely combine their high-end expertise with a t-shirt-and-jeans style. The French resto’s name translates to "the counter" (which makes sense, considering the impressive bar built to resemble a '50s lunch counter), but its fare is a far cry from that of your local diner. Creative dishes like Foie Gras Creme Brulee ($9), Gnocchi ‘n’ Cheese ($5) and dollar oysters (5-8pm nightly), combined with high-end cocktails (that don’t take themselves too seriously, $10-$11), explain why people are increasingly looking to Brooklyn for the next dining trends. While the ambiance inside is sophisticated and hip, the real fun is out back, where a sweet garden patio houses their rose bar. Out here, you’ll get unlimited cocktails ($24.50) during summer brunches and a Monday night all-you-can-eat, French-style BBQ ($20) that’s enough to make you forgive the owners for ever abandoning the South of France.
