Most New Yorkers flock to yoga classes in an attempt to align their chakras. Save those contortionist positions for a rainy day and rejuvenate your soul (and your palate) at Leela Lounge. Saffron-colored curtains line the long windows, welcoming diners into an upscale Indian eatery (a welcome alternative to the campy curry houses that infest Sixth Street). The grandiose lounge area is warmly lit and there are plenty of comfy seats where you can groove to Indian-fused house music. The detailed mural above the bar and long wooden wine rack mesmerizes as you sample signature cocktails like the “Chaitini” (Indian spiced chai with vodka and Bailey’s) or Sex in Goa (citrus vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry, pineapple, and orange juice). It all makes for a delightful journey into the diaspora. You won’t be sari you gave Leela Lounge a try.
Love this place. The quality of food rises above the rest in NYC. Checkout the assorted Tandoori appetizers and the Murg Tikka Masala for entree. As for drinks ...I see a huge Cocktails variety but I am more a beer guy as it goes well with Indian food.
