This former gay club has gotten a minimalist makeover, which is just as well—their sumptuous plates and pours certainly don’t need frills to get attention. And what else would you expect from owners with triumphs like The Red Cat and The Mermaid Inn under their belts? Prepare to unbuckle yours when faced with perfectly executed New-American temptations like pork rillette ($14) and pesto and pecorino gnocci ($17). Libations are plentiful and will have you just as eager to consume, including hometown tipples like Captain Lawrence Reserve Imperial IPA ($10), as well as wines and a creative cocktail menu from Mermaid Oyster Bar alum Colby Fuller. Try the appropriately pink bubbly (and yes, rather gay), International Stud ($12). Made with prosecco, rosé and raspberry vodka, this surprisingly stout cocktail will sweep you off your feet like any handsome gent of international proportions…just don’t let it mop the floor with you.
