Lido: While iconic Harlem draws attention for many of its distinct cultural offerings, it not really know for its garden-party charm. Coming along to fill this void in the neighborhood, perhaps, is Lido. Italian for "beach," Lido's dinner menu offers fresh takes on seafood staples, though its cocktail program and overall vibe slant more soil than sand. Creatively crafted crostini, like fava bean with mint or sea salt shrimp ($4.50 each), are delightfully flavorful and a perfect pairing for a pre-dinner drink. Garden-inspired cocktails ($11) play with rosemary, mint, ginger and basil, making for refreshing hints of spring year-round. And while you may have to wait until the warm weather to throw open Lido’s French doors, the white-washed walls, bright, exposed brick, and pale green and cream hues, transport weekend brunch to a quaint Southern courtyard. As a matter of fact, with the changing faces of Harlem—an affluent crowd Lido certainly seems to be catering to—it’s disappointingly easy to forget you’re in the historic hood at all.
