Lillie's Times Square: Fittingly located in the visually dramatic Theater District, the Midtown outpost of Lillie’s is perfect for those that revel in the theatah. For one, the place practically looks like the set of a 19th-century period piece: the bar’s decked out in Victoriana from floor to ceiling, ornately outfitted in high-backed burgundy booths, marble fireplaces and busts, dripping in dark woods, walls fulsome with framed portraits. You can almost imagine Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing pulling up stools to wax comedic about their Wildean ways, or even the bar’s namesake, turn-of-the-century British actress Lillie Langtry, gabbing with girlfriends about her latest romantic (and royal!) conquest. That is, until one of the loud sports-touting flat-screens ruin the illusion, reminding you that you’re amongst cheering Times Square suits and theatergoing tourists packing in after The Book of Mormon instead of in the company of courtly characters from Downton Abbey. A few pints of Bass and Boddingtons (both $7), shots of Black Bush and Bushmills Irish whiskey ($8-10), or wine from Langtry’s own estate ($75/bottle) will make the harsh realization go down way smoother, but you’ll still wish the Right Honorable Violet Crawley would come open up a can of anachronistic whoop ass.
