Lingua:
What do you get when you mix an Italian tapas bar, the Rolling Stones’ Forty Licks logo and a couple of forty-something ex-club kid investors? Lingua, of course—or the East Village’s latest attempt at fusion, in this case, striving to marry Italian cuisine with tapas-style presentation (all plates, categorized by food group, can be ordered in small or large portions for sharing). Unique offerings like crunchy lamb sweet breads ($10, $15), pair well with their mostly-Italian wine list, and pours conveniently start at only $6 a glass. A cocktail menu is nowhere to be found as of yet, though a top-notch mixologist is rumored to be crafting drinks named after the Jackie O and Clark Gable B&W prints which line the walls. These glamour shots clash with the otherwise tacky décor and splintered wooden ceiling almost as badly as the too-loud electronic remix of La Bouche hits disagree with the Latin Jazz that follows. But if you’ve always thought that wine bars should be filled with boozing bartenders and boisterous beats, than Lingua definitely speaks your language.
