Little Muenster: Gourmet grilled cheese isn’t new to the laundry list of comfort food turned fancy cuisine, but we’re still pleased that Little Muenster is new to the LES. Little is right—the diminutive dairy den, housed in a Stanton Street storefront, can squeeze in a scant 13! Its melted marvels range from the classic (white American singles with tomato and bacon, $7) to the complex (Oaxaca, jalapeno corn puree, tomatillo and cotija on peasant bread, $9). The trio of Asiago, Parmesan and Muenster with butternut squash and sage brown butter deftly balances salty and sweet ($8), while Chèvre adds a nice acidic kick to gooey Gruyère, leek confit and pancetta on French sourdough ($9). With any sandwich, you can turn that toasty up to 11 with a smear of bone marrow butter for only a buck. Round out the fromage feast with a side salad or soup (tomato or seasonal, $1), and a homemade soda or High Life ($3) to wash it all down. Can’t snag a seat under the cheese grater chandelier? Don’t fret—there’s takeout and, soon, delivery, so you can gobble up all the gooey goodness in the privacy of your own home. And trust us—you’ll want some alone time with these scrumptious sammies.
