Los Dados:
Let’s face it: the only authentic Mexican food you’re gonna find in the city is from the taco truck in your not-so gentrified neighborhood. But does your taco truck serve blueberry margaritas? Hell, no. This seductive and vibrant newcomer is quickly becoming a destination for the fashion set. Sip a few of their inventive “Mex-tails,” like the Lagerita (fresh lime, simple syrup, premium tequila, and Dos Equis) or the Vanilla Bean Margarita, and soak up the tequila with Chef Sue Torres' mouth-watering dishes like the BBQ beef mini tacos. The prices may have you screaming “hijo de puta!”, but this is the Meatpacking District, not Tijuana.
I went to this place last Thursday night with 2 friends. I highly recommend checking out the orange blossom margarita...the cucumber margarita was surprisingly refreshing as well. We started with the gaucomole and chips. Even though it wasn't done table side it still tasted great. The chips were exceptional -- I didn't ask but i would bet they make them on their own. For my main course i had the shrimp with pork tamale. I can't remember the sauce that came with it but it really pulled the whole dish together. The tamale was super moist and the shrimp had a nice charred-grill to them. I didn't have dessert but plan to next visit. Also, I have to say, the prices were much more reasonable than i expect them to be for the neighborhood. Margaritas were only $10.....granted, not cheap, but compared to the +$15 cocktails at every other places in the neighborhood I was pretty psyched.
