Lounge at The Night Hotel: In any other part of Manhattan, the Lounge at the Night Hotel might be considered a faux-swanky poser, but when the nearest competition for nightlife is the Toys “R” Us up the block, Lounge takes the lead. That said, the boutique Night Hotel (the sluttier sister of the nearby Dream Hotel) is actually a pretty decent spot. Fun, tourist-impressing cocktails litter the menu: the death-by-Godiva-liqueur Chocolate Truffletini ($13), the by-the-book Night Martini ($12), and the hilariously-named Top Shelf Margarita ($13) featuring the kind of “top shelf” Jose Cuervo Plantino Reserva you can get at the nearby liquor store for about 50 bucks. Okay, so their “top shelf” may be as low as a falling limbo stick, but at least the snacking menu is solid, including a tasty herb-infused Maine lobster salad ($18) and over-sized “mini”-burgers ($15). The Lounge at the Night Hotel is certainly not a place Manhattanites will want to pony up cab fare to get to, but if you find yourself in the hood (God forbid!) you could find worse places to get loaded on a street consumed with chain retail stores and “Plastic Paddy Pubs.”
