Macri Park:
Named for the under-used bocce plaza across the street, Macri Park gives Williamsburg and its many visitors a better way to beat the summer heat than waiting in line at Union Pool. Facing the park, Macri funnels the great outdoors into its open façade, through the proper bar and into a charming (meaning small) back patio. After recent renovations, Macri’s narrow, vaguely-futuristic interior has transformed from dive bar to dive star: Red velvet wallpaper outlines the intimate cocktailing space, while semi-circle booths jut out into the cement floor. Dim lights and a black, sleek bar with comfy stools induce a lounge-atmosphere that attracts Williamsburg’s neighborhood-dive-bar crew. The DJ always mixes a little soul with French dance as B-roll for the muted film (normally Planet of the Apes) loops on the huge TV. And since it offers free BBQ with drinks on some summer weekends, Macri Park is a great way to avoid the taco truck insanity.
