Mad River Bar & Grille:
There’s a sign at Mad River Bar and Grille that reads “The Mad River Inn” in Rockwellian lettering—neat characters that conjure up images of a white-haired, kindly looking innkeeper carrying freshly baked apple pie to the table. But while the décor here is reminiscent of a quaint country B&B, the theme dies there. Once unleashed from their pens—er, cubicles—working little piglets head here for cheap drafts and well drinks during the nightly happy hour. With ties loosened, slacks rumpled, and shirts untucked, previously put-together junior bankers and assistants get wild on the dance floor to a mix of Top 40 hits and old-school standards. When renovated, Mad River’s upstairs area could provide a tamer place to hang. But downstairs, there’s always a sloppy party.
If your looking for cheap food & drinks, good music, and a young professional scene this is a great spot. I am 28 and this place has all the plasmas, cute girls, and hot wings my heart desires

Mad River is by far the worst bar in the Upper East side. The bouncers are clearly delusional and act as if Mad River is an up-scale place which is the farthest thing from the truth. Mad River is literally a frat party filled with Bridge and Tunnel frat types who think they are still in college. The music is all over the place- sometimes you'll get college classics like "Shot To the Heart" and other times you'll hear techno. The bar is understaffed and dysfunctional- expect to wait for a watered-down drink. If your looking for a fun place in the area with a good crowd- go anywhere on 2nd Avenue but avoid this place!
