Mahjong Dumplings:
The Mexican darling, Cascabel, has moved on up in the East Side. The same owners have whipped the former space (with less than 50 seats) into a dumpling joint named after the Chinese domino game that decorates the small bar. Don't expect Chinatown staples; these dumplings are posh and speak foodie with fillings like chorizo and charred corn salsa, and a braised pulled beef with balsamic caramelized onion ($4.25 for 3). Tea can be sipped, but it'll most likely be of the boozy variety. The Geisha Tea ($9) made with sochu, chili-infused vodka, soursop and aloe vera goes nicely with the Pork Udon; as will any of the varieties of Asian beers—there are plenty to choose from while you belly up to the communal table and talk to the neighbors about how the UES is almost becoming cool.
