Mark: In a town overrun with boutique burgers, it's pretty refreshing to see this East Village eatery make its Mark with a simple slider. Walk a few steps down into the dark, garden level shop on St. Mark's and take a quick glance through the front picture window: Clearly, you're not in for something upscale. In fact, at Mark, even lettuce and tomato are considered too fancy to fly (takes away from the pure enjoyment of the beef, you see). Instead, grab a stool and let the laid-back, pub-like atmosphere compliment Mark’s $2 sliders—a simple, savory mix of beef, American cheese and fried onions. So, yeah, it's basically a White Castle treat you don't need to be drunk to enjoy...but hey, if you wanna get drunk anyway, how does a round of $4 microbrews sound? When it comes to burgers and beers, Mark has earned its sainthood. |
