MarX Restaurant: If The Smith and Alice's Tea Cup had a baby, it'd be the simultaneously hip and whimsical MarX Restaurant, situated on a quiet side street amidst the hustle and bustle of Bloomingdale's outskirts. The eclectic crowd is a hodgepodge of locals, business folks and exhausted shoppers looking to comfort their weary bodies and growling stomachs. Luckily, both cozy couches and spacious booths abound to rest your feet. As for eats, filling fare like a rosemary turkey burger ($11.95, with fries served in an adorable funnel) or marX n’ cheese ($10.95) is sure to satisfy all desires in a more than satisfactory manner. Vintage black-and-white photos of New York, zebra print-upholstery and a food-themed general store up front complete the West Village apartment vibe. In the mood for live jazz? Wednesday through Saturday, venture up the winding staircase to marX's upstairs lounge for a spot that feels more like a tucked-away living room (well, if your living room had a sprawling piano and fully-stocked bar) and indulge in some tunes and cocktails. Try the Espresso Martini or Pineapple Upside Cake (all cocktails $9-12) or enjoy the happy-hour offerings from 5:30-8:30pm of $6 wine, $4.50 beer and $5 well drinks. For casual brunch, karaoke night or I-just-need-to-get-out-of-the-house-and-have-a-cup-of-coffee-and-read, X marks the spot for us, too.
