Mary Queen of Scots:
Contrary to the writing on the (bathroom) wall, the Queen is NOT Dead. Or at least, the one at 115 Allen Street is not. Hoping to fare a better fate than their beheaded namesake (as well as several death-sentenced predecessors—RIP: Allen and Delancey), Mary Queen of Scots the restaurant treats its own constituents with a bit more loving attention. The interior looks like a Project Runway challenge to update a 19th Century castle for a hip and modern queen. Plaid fabric booths, warm lighting and well-placed gilded mirrors make the Scottish-French gastropub a great spot for a cozy yet trendy liaison. The menu takes a twist on traditional dishes—all for under $30—but isn't whiskey what the Scots were really known for? The bar stocks not only specialty cocktails (try the French 75, made with Gin and served in a "Marie Antoinette" glass, of course), but a 300+ scotch and malt list fit for a king ..er, queen.
I ate here last night and had an amazing time! The food was great, the waitress was super nice, and the place has such a cool vibe. I will def be back.
