Mas (la grillade):
When we think of food cooked over flame, things like bonfires, hot dogs and s’mores usually spring to mind—not a high-end seasonal menu prepared atop locally-sourced specialty hardwoods. But that’s the case at the warm and cozy (and unnecessarily parenthetical) Mas (la grillade)—a sister spot to chef Galen Zamarra’s Mas (farmhouse). Mas (la grillade) is an exhibition of grilling par excellence, with meat, fish and veggies nestled in the banks of two-ton grills and fire pits for preparation by steaming, smoking, spit-roasting and, uh, grilling...natch. Highlights include wild Alaskan king salmon ($32) and grass-fed aged beef in a variety of cuts. The mad grilling minds are even using their wood for desserts such as grilled figs, charred plums and...ready for it?...s’mores (duh! $12). The interior is “farmhouse chic” with classy oak-paneled walls, a predominantly French wine selection and local craft beers to boot. Who knew manly simplicity could be so refined?!
