Match 65: Sacrebleu! Once called Paris Match, this classy Upper East Side French/sushi joint recently rebranded, playing down the Pepé Le Pew and playing up the wasabi and ginger Yet, fear not, Francophiles: the biggest change here is all in the name. Every bit of the je ne sais quoi that made this place a good date spot, including a killer chicken paillard ($22) and lighting that makes everyone look like Marion Cotillard, remains. Okay, maybe that Cotillard thing is a stretch, but—like at its sister 212 down the street—the staff is usually très hot. Meanwhile, moneyed, buttoned-up Manhattanites cozy up to those European model bartenders, as groups of "Gossip Girl" youngins brunch in packs alongside dignified elderly couples. But, despite all this potential pretention, don’t expect anything but a friendly welcome—unless you’re Pepé himself. That guy's a stinky date-rapist. |
