Medi Wine Bar: Transport yourself to the serene Mediterranean, if only for a few hours, at Medi Wine Bar. The serenading sounds of Jack Johnson and Bob Marley provide a soothing backdrop for intimate date-night conversation among the sophisticated (yet, not overtly well-to-do) middle-aged crowd. Drink up, for a variety of smooth Mediterranean wines—nearly all available by the glass ($6-$14) or in 500ml or 750ml bottles—will magically transform your Jack into a suave, European Jacques (alas, minus the hot accent). If that doesn’t work, the white brick walls, white banquettes and soft lighting are sure to make you forget that you’re still in good old New York. A full dinner menu is available, but be sure to try the Mixed Olives, a blend of green, brown and black, whose “meat” melts seamlessly off the pit, and will convert you to an olive-lover on the spot. Best of all, with such affordable prices, this staycation sure beats a $1,000 flight to Greece.
