The meridian 23rd degree is a line of longitude running just east of Greenwich, England through Europe and Africa, and straight down through the South Pole. Soon-to-open club Meridian 23 is actually placed just north of Greenwich—village, that is—though its dance music at least plans to be geographically consistent with its name. World beats played live and spun by DJs will be mixed with avant-garde, indie, rock and pop when the swanky lounge opens in mid-October. Expect those signature cocktails and fine wines to be held in the hands of an upscale, Euro-type clientele, though the owners hope their warm decor will promote a chill, inviting atmosphere.
