Since 1996, this standby NoLita Mexican spot has filled a nice niche in the gap between overpriced gourmet scenes like Dos Caminos and your neighborhood burrito factory. Red walls stenciled with Mexican symbology and the soft glow of Christmas lights create a festive atmosphere where young professionals shell out the Jacksons for pitchers of frozen guava and raspberry/black cherry margaritas. Since La Esquina opened across the street in 2005, it’s most certainly lost some of its flashier business, but that doesn’t mean you still won’t have to wait 40 minutes for a table, or else try to elbow your way to a seat at the bar on weekends. Who says video killed the Radio star?
