Milk & Honey:
Even the “exclusive” isn’t that exclusive if you know the right people, or can do the appropriate Googling. Such is the case with “members only” club Milk & Honey on the Lower East Side—a sister club to the Soho London originale—that any one can actually get into with an emailed reservation and a little waiting. The inconspicuous, hard-to-find spot is small but comfortable, with scientist-like mixologists serving up well-made cocktails in appropriate glassware with massive glacieresque ice cubes bobbing like buoys. There’s no menu, so one is forced to simply mention a flavor profile he or she would like and let the cocktail-slingers go to work (though, saying “The Bee’s Kiss” will get you their signature concoction; all cocktails $16). Milk & Honey believes in top-notch decorum (they even have posted “rules”) so there’s no need to worry about raucous yahoos ruining your experience. Though bring a stack of bills as this particular speakeasy is cash only.
They've been around for 5 years and they have turned away countless business by having their silly door policy of an unlisted number and a hidden address. It's paid off though and now they are cashing in. We had 4 drinks that came to $60. That's a bit much. I loved every minute of it but I won't go back. Oh the 60 had a smiley face in the zero to add insult to injury. Great place though.
