Milk & Honey:
The gimmicks are cute—a “secret” phone number is required for entry, fedora racks abound, etc. This ’20s-style speakeasy is even located within an unmarked, defunct dry cleaning shop. Excellent specialty cocktails are served on silver platters by a staff that seems to have raided James Cagney’s closet. How long can this work? Well, it’s at 5+ years right now and it’s inspired a plethora of copy cats, so that question is yet to be answered. Drinks are very pricey here—$12+. There’s also a corny set of “rules” posted that no one really seems to test: Men are not too approach women unless they first ask the bartender. There’s no name-dropping. Fighting is not permitted. No word on whether or not mild pretension is okay, but it seems to be.
They've been around for 5 years and they have turned away countless business by having their silly door policy of an unlisted number and a hidden address. It's paid off though and now they are cashing in. We had 4 drinks that came to $60. That's a bit much. I loved every minute of it but I won't go back. Oh the 60 had a smiley face in the zero to add insult to injury. Great place though.
