Monument Lane: A cozy tavern named after the former portion of Greenwich Avenue it sits on, Monument Lane also evokes the ambiance and dining experience one might have found way back then. There are tons of old-timey decorating touches (tables made from doors, a pull-chain toilet, built-in pews, and a lot of really, really old-looking wood), but the highlight is the unique food. Hearty dishes like pork cracklins ($5) and lobster rolls ($18) fill the menu, as well an impressive cheese and charcuterie selection, a raw bar and several dishes “for two.” The prominences of these large sharing dishes (striped bass for two, $42) might make Monument Lane seem like a date spot, and it is, especially if your romantic interest has some sort of New Amsterdam fetish. But, it’s a fun change of pace with an artsy cocktail menu (the apple liqueur Jack Smash is of note) and plenty of solid wine and craft beer to choose from.
