Morgan’s Bar is a welcome underground alcove in the basement of the sleek Morgan Hotel. Down the stairs from the sparse main lobby, the intimate, cavernous lounge is padded with mirrors and red velvet banquette cushions. In an area known for its cookie-cutter watering holes, the gothic bohemian style of Morgan’s is perfect for an impressive date or any excuse to feel sexy and meathead-free. If only the bar would maintain its integrity with its music selection. With pounding, ear-numbing international techno—the kind of music designed for 1,000-person-capacity nightclubs in Ibiza—the cozy and sensual cocktail lounge becomes less appealing by the second. Beer drinkers are out of luck at a bar that only pushes wine and high-end cocktails, but the pricey drinks do pack a smooth punch.
