Motorino East Village: Despite being three "L" stops away from the city, the original Motorino has hardly been a well-kept secret. And now that owner Mathieu Palombino has opened a high-profile location in the East Village, expect Motorino's name to come up in a lot of "Best Pizza in the Big Apple" discussions. Taking over in the previous locale of Una Pizza Napoletana (speaking of great pizza), the new place is fast churning out classic Margherita pies, plus new school “pizze” (like the Salame pie, topped with fior di latte, salame, parmigiano and argula) from the same exposed brick oven that worked so well for the previous hosts. Equally impressive—and completely unexpected—is the $10 pre fixe brunch menu, featuring an Italian twist on an American brunch. A breakfast pizza? This is our college dream come true, and yes, Motorino has one: the Pizza Al’Uovo (cow's milk mozzarella, farm eggs, pancetta, basil and parmigiano), complete with coffee and orange juice. You can even spike the whole thing with a Bloody Mary for an extra $3. When the sun is shining, the large glass façade invites locals and travelers to bask in what New York is best at: pizza and peoplewatching. |
