Oh, another Rosa Mexicano opened uptown? Coulda fooled us. MXco, the newcomer to the UES had all of the requesites of New York’s most popular (and inauthentic) Mexican hot spots. Splashy south of the border décor? Extra large guac made tableside? Fruity margaritas? Si, si and si. In fact, the husband and wife team behind the joint (they also owned the spot's previous incarnation Vynl, by the way) might have truly cracked the piñata with their carafes of margs and the mix-and-match fruit purees that come with them. So it's not surprising that local stroller-pushers and post-grad happy hour imbibers are leaving their name at the hostess table to partake in sweet-tooth approved entrees like Pomegranate Glazed Hanger Steak and Coca-Cola carnitas. Yeah, the menu sounds like T.G.I.Viernes, but the food rates better than your average bloomin’ onion...and did we mention the margs?
stopped for the happy hour and stayed for dinner. What a surprise! Never expected such a culinary advanced little treasures as their tacos. Nachos were out of this world. They have extensive tequilas menu but wines should not be overlooked. Really nice spot.
