Navy Beach: It’s all about the views (and the 20-foot-long wooden bar) at Surf Lodge’s newest rival, Navy Beach. The family-friendly, waterfront restaurant boasts comfort food classics like truffled mac ‘n cheese ($9) and steak frites ($26), along with plenty of vino (included local East End finds), domestic and imported beers ($5), and a slew of $12 cocktails. Among the mixed drink standouts are the Salty Dog, made with vodka, grapefruit and a sea-salt rim, or the Navy Grog, a combination of three rums and a mix of grapefruit, orange and pineapple juices. In keeping with the general anti-Hamptons, laid-back nature of Montauk, the décor is rustic, beach house chic—reclaimed wood beams, vintage artwork, exposed brick, and a color scheme that’s heavy on white and ocean blue. While this isn’t the spot for table dancing (we’ll leave that to similarly nautical-inspired Dune), a slew of locally driven PG events are slated for the summer (Guitar Hero night, comedy night…), while weekly food specials and a post-sunset happy hour make this an all the more welcome addition to the East End tip. |
