Neary's:
Remember how you used to dread visiting your great aunt’s house, but ended up having an okay time once you got there? Family-owned and operated Neary’s Pub is sort of like that—it has that great aunt smell, but the Irish fare is worth a try. Steeped in history, this tiny Upper East Side veteran will celebrate its 40th anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day in 2007. Servers wear conservative uniforms—think Emerald Isle green blouses tucked into knee-length black skirts, with black stockings and sensible black shoes—and the dress code prohibits shorts and t-shirts. With a relic of a bartender who tends to ignore anyone under the age of 30 and no drink deals, Neary’s doesn’t even try to attract younger patrons.

This place is a very run-of-the-mill pub catering to older crowd, BUT you will not find better corned beef and cabbage anywhere on either side of the Atlantic. Limited bar.
