Night of Joy: With all that let-them-eat cake business, Marie Antoinette gets a seriously bad rap. Yeah, we're outwardly dismissing the insensitive tyrant, but deep-down we’d give anything to hang. While the beheaded beauty has been dead for centuries, Night of Joy, a Williamsburg cocktail lounge, embraces the best of Ms. Antoinette’s lavish lifestyle—antique French décor, decadent cocktails, outdoor lounging and games. Play pool in the parlor while enjoying one of eight inspired cocktails ($9), including Dill-and-Beet infused vodka and Orange Blossom Rum Lemonade. Sun on the patio, where one wall teems with climbing clematis and a graffiti mural adds an edge to the whimsical ambiance. Forget about the desperate state of our own economy as you sip a Pinot Grigio ($8) and gaze up at the Grand Central-inspired ceiling. Just a week after opening, Night of Joy’s gold-leaf furniture was already filled with punky creative-types, because after all, if Marie lived in 21st century Brooklyn, she would totally have tattoos. |
