Night Owl
NOW KINGDOM. It first attempted flight as Oulu, a fancy lounge lost in the shuffle of Williamsburg's overwhelming bar scene. Quickly re-branded Night Owl, the place has now found a way to get people to start giving a hoot: by catering directly to the neighborhood's new condo-dwelling demographic. In the glow of a huge new flat-screen, you can see plenty of evidence of the Owl's former plumage, including handsome wooden benches facing comfy parlor chairs, and ornate, cyclorama-shaped tables pressed against the wooden walls. You'll kind of feel like you're in the orgy scene from Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut"…only now with, er, a Skee Ball ramp. (Guess the lack of Skee-Ball is what sank the old place). But hey, as a result, you have a place to take your cosmopolitan friends eager to drop the pretense and have some fun...and doesn't that describe most people in this nabe, anyway? It's easy to picture the new locals bonding over bar games, a few video jukebox songs and the usual selection of beers. A real plus here is a fully-functional DJ booth ready to be rocked by your party—in other words, you and your friends could really commandeer the joint.

Good Times

I was stuck in Brooklyn over the Holidays and found this out of the way bar by accident. The bartender was great, he had a lot of funny stories about getting drunk all over the world, he also let me play my iPod for a good portion of the night. Cool woodwork in the bar with a '50's feel to it. I agree with the review, you can really take over this place. I will be coming back when I move to Brooklyn this summer.
