Noorman's Kil:
Just when it seems Williamsburg could never find the space (literally and figuratively) for one more whiskey bar, Noorman's Kil manages to carve out a niche on bourbon-soaked Grand Street. Brooklynites mad for moonshine already have spots to sip single-malts (Post Office), to soak up the sauce (with fried chicken, at Williams & Bailey), and to use as an excuse to take off their tops (The Whiskey Brooklyn), but Noorman's makes its own mark as the working man's whiskey bar. The handsome, less-is-more design aesthetic focuses attention on the gallery of bottles, but keeps their higher-brow hobby down-to-earth by pairing their pours with grilled cheese sandwiches. Newbies to the scene can even take part in some experiential learning on Wednesday nights, when the bar offers free tastings. But with all this whiskey-obsession, where can a beer-chugging gal or a Merlot-loving fella find their place? Try the back garden, where it doesn't matter if you're relaxing with a rye cocktail ($8), one of a dozen beers on tap ($5-6) or a glass of vino—as long as you're relaxing.
