Odyssea: Bar-hoppers in Williamsburg are assuredly never bored—between gritty dive bars, speakeasy-inspired cocktail lounges, and BBQ joints that are a tutorial in all things animal protein, the ‘hood is teeming with character. But if you’re feeling exhausted from competing with a place's décor and menus for attention, the newly-opened Odyssea may provide some respite. The indoor-outdoor space, located just a few steps from the Metropolitan/Lorimer station, is a model in quality and quantity, if not personality. One of the owners ran a Bushwick diner for 13 years and it shows in both the restaurant’s customer-service orientation and its simple but extensive offerings. Forget kobe beef sliders and caviar-infused martinis, the menu is completely no-frills with bar food staples ($6-10), and standard beer and cocktail offerings ($6-$9). Still there’s something for everyone here, from flat screens for the sports fans, a DJ for the booty-shakers, and a bamboo-fenced patio for those who enjoy the soothing sounds of the BQE. No antique furniture, no Buck Hunter, no suspendered bartenders—Odyssea's suburban feel is unique in a neighborhood full of eccentrics. |
