Ofrenda: First the bad news: The folks at Ofrenda didn't seem keen on us choosing the bar over a table, and once we were seated, the bartender wasn't the o-friendliest. In fact, after selecting a cocktail, the bartender/owner informed us that our choice was "more of a man's drink." Spurned, our inner feminist settled on a Jalepeno margarita, served up with Patron and Cointreau for just $10! Apology accepted, señor. As for the rest of the place, the bar is stunning, with gorgeous woodwork while the remainder is a work in progress. But even in its infant stage, Ofrenda does offer an upscale menu that won't break the bank. Think new-school Mexican apps (crab chimichangas) running from $8 to $12, entrees (mole chicken, breaded pork loin) from $16 to $20, paletas (a.k.a. ice pops) in flavors like avocado and gazpacho, and free chips and salsa. Ofren-sive remarks aside, we'll be back. |
