Old Town Bar & Grill:
A low-key crowd of seasoned drinkers gather at this hidden dive just off swanky Park Avenue South and Union Square. Old Town is actually more than 100 years old, and isn’t vintage so hot right now? Inside the wooden booths and bars are well worn and the scents of French fries, famous burgers, general pub grub, and Irish beer waft distinctly through the air. The upstairs is distinguished for dining, but it’s just as ungentrified and historically tranquil. This New York staple has become a respite from the area’s trends, and a perfect alternative to the ornate $15 martinis available nearby.
This bar is great. When you walk through the door it feels like stepping into an ancient railroad depot, and it has good food-- some of the best nachos in the city.
