Osteria Il Paiolo:
Osteria il Paiolo is the most recent brave establishment trying to make a home of the infamous 106 N.6 Street spot where The Cove, Sense Sushi and others have perished. It’s making a good effort and, if Williamsburg is lucky, Osteria will stick around awhile. Though the decor is tritely Midwestern (copper sconces, reeeally?), the food and hospitality are purely Italiano. While couples might want to cozy up at a table to indulge in Paiolo’s signature polenta, social types should swing by the bar on weeknights for their version of a happy hour, featuring a smorgasbord of free Italian eats (think bruschetta and polenta fritters). But Olive Garden buffet this is not—their specialty drinks (which are generally bitter and heavy on the prosecco and vermouth) are not bottomless and will set you back a cool $12 each. Then again, after a few expertly-crafted aperitivos and a chat with the endearing barkeep, you may be thinking “Olive Garden” after all...because when you’re at Osteria il Paiolo, you're family.
