Osteria Morini: Think NYC doesn’t need another Italian resto? You’re pasta-tively wrong on that one. Chef Michael White has opened up another authentic villa for pasta-lovin’ persons, and it’s well worth a go. Setting itself apart from the rest is a semi-open kitchen, allowing diners to watch the action as their food gets prepared. This place is all about the pasta ($19-$22), so forgo other run-of-the-mill entrees in favor of the top-notch noodles. Slurp down your spaghetti with some sweet Italian libations, such as Saba (grape-infused vodka, saba, fernet and limonata soda, $15), or have the waitstaff tempt you with one of their many wine selections. Your taste buds may be getting a first-class ticket to Italy already, but the atmosphere—a cozy tavern-like space adorned with photographs, wooden paneling and the aforementioned open prep space—feels like the inside of a welcoming Italian grandfather’s kitchen and dining room, too. That is, if your grandfather were an amazing cook.
