Pearl's Social and Billy Club: It takes a moment for a patron’s eyes to adjust to Pearl’s candle-lit (read: pitch-dark) interior, but once they do, retro-phile hipsters and chilled-out locals alike are inevitably pleased with what they see. Artifacts from owner Miss Betsey’s great-grandmother, Pearl, pepper the shelves; antique tchotchkes, turn-of-the-century photos and un-readable hardbacks bring a cozy feel, while cardigan-clad boys with rad ‘staches (apparently required for entry) supply the ever-important Bushwick edge. Pull up to the long wooden bar for a mason jar full o’ cheap craft beer (ex. Smuttynose, BluePoint and Kolsch) or a soon-to-be-famous fresh-fruit margarita, made with ingredients jarred and displayed right at the bar ($8). The place is packed on weekends, but regulars attest that weeknights and afternoons are great for chilling with peeps from the nabe in a low-key scene. After downing a few margs and befriending the locals, go ahead and snap some pics in the back photobooth—after a night like this, you’ll want to remind yourself to come back.
