Pedestrians on trendy Vanderbilt Avenue were beginning to view the ubiquitous "coming soon" signs plastered in the storefront that once housed Bar Barrette with skepticism. But finally, after a year of taunting, the doors have opened to reveal just what took so long. Despite its name, there is not much that's small about Prospect Park’s Pequeña, the second installment of the popular Ft. Greene Mexican restaurant. The authentic recipes pack a powerful punch (read: caliente!), the margaritas ($8-$9) are strong, and the decor is a veritable explosion of color. Not an inch of surface has been left untouched, from the hand-painted golden skulls, to the tchotchkes covering the walls, to the mural decorating the bar. Just be warned, if you get more than one bebida—which you probably will—your bill won’t be all that tiny, either.
