Pier i Cafe:
It's hard to complain about the biggest terrace in town. You may have to fend for yourself and schlep drinks back from the bar. But with what is surely the longest pier in New York City, it's worth it. Any longer, and you'd be in Englewood Cliffs. The crowd can get a bit out of control during rush hour. But on weekends, or later at night, you can put your feet up and watch the sun set over the Hudson. With Thomas Balsley's modern park esplanade behind you, you'll be smiling. The cabana umbrellas and tables would have you thinking you're in the Caribbean. Too bad a rear view of the West Side Highway spoils the illusion. Take note, there isn't much in the way of food. The menu doesn't venture far beyond burgers, dogs, and fries, with some appetizers. But Pier i compensates for ordinary fare with atmosphere
