Pierre Loti Cafe & Winebar: Kind of like the “Jekyll & Hyde” for big kids, Pierre Loti Wine Bar in Gramercy provides a playground for the adult palette. Named after a wandering French novelist, Pierre Loti serves a wide selection of wine from all of Pierre’s old stomping grounds in Europe, but it mainly sticks to French grapes. Tucked away in a cove in Gramercy, the décor exemplifies the quintessential neighborhood bar by using—and sometimes abusing—dark woods, dim lighting, cozy seating and rich red accents. Yet that Victorianesque vibe is the reason that Irving Place never gets old. A wine bar through-and-through, Pierre Loti may not tug at all hearts (especially ones impatient for service), but if you are a lover of good grapes and sick of the generic spots in the EV, Pierre treats you to a whole new, albeit pricey, experience. |
